Succulent Arrangement Update

So earlier in the summer I did a succulent arrangement and I thought it would be fun to share an update.

Before

I loved this arrangement when I originally created it but now it is so full. It is beautiful and green.

Now

It has really grown and I know it will grow more. Hopefully it will grow more before I have to put it in the greenhouse.

Mailbox Fairy Garden

About a year ago I was given an old mailbox, I knew I wanted to use it in my garden but I was not sure how I wanted it to look. Over the summer I really got into fairy gardens and I decided I needed to make it a fairy house. I had ordered some of the Tinkerbell character earlier in the year and have been using them in my garden all summer long. I had everything I needed to make another fairy garden and was getting really excited to make a mailbox fairy garden.

Inside the mailbox has a little house with some rocks and moss along with a fairy. On the door I cover it with moss and made some decorations out of bead that I already had around the house. (I am hoping to change the decor for each season and holiday.) Right now it is decorated for Halloween but I also made some decorations to keep in the garden all year long.

In the flower pot I did arrangement of several different types of plants. I wanted it to mix well with my Halloween theme fairy garden but still have color. I used lots of purple and added some Halloween decorations.

This fairy garden will change with the seasons and I hope it will stay the highlight of this flowerbed for years to come. I am hoping to share this little fairy house as it evolves over time.

Succulents in my Fairy Garden

I love the look of the succulents in a fairy garden. The rosette succulent give a look of flowers in the fairies yard. The taller succulents and cacti give an appearance of trees. It just makes me smile to see how something I imagine will turn out and get to enjoy these beautiful plants for years to come.

For this project I use succulents that I purchased and succulents that I grew from cuttings. I also used 2 cacti.

The little house I got at a craft store for a $1 and let my kids paint it. I truly love including my kids are project all over our house and in our yard.

I love art and to create new things. I feel as though the working in the garden is another for of art. I have an idea that I want to bring to reality. There maybe painting involved, there maybe some building, and there is a lot of placing the plant in just a way to give a certain look. I have hopes to construct some other items for future fairy gardens and I hope you all get inspired to create something new.

A few flowers

I love working in the garden and I am always adding new things to it. Earlier in the spring I posted about a few of the flowers growing. Now that we are in summer I thought I would share some of the new flowers that are blooming.

I have several different sunflowers growing and next year I hope to have a flower bed just for the sunflowers. I aloha very a red sunflower that is not blooming right now. When I get a flower I will post a picture of it.

I also have a lot of roses in our yard but I did get a new purple rose that looks amazing.

The last flower I am going share is a marigold. I always grow marigold during the summer but this year I just dumped the seeds in the ground and I got huge bushes. I will be doing it this way from now on.

These are just a few of the flowers that are growing and I can’t wait to add more to our yard.

My Favorite Fairy Garden

I have been playing with succulents and cacti all summer long and I just love them. I now have about 10 succulent arrangements inside my house and I have a few outside as well. My mom got me a flower pot that was a large tea cup and told me she wanted me to do a succulent arrangement to add to my collection.

I had some beautiful aloe cuttings and some cacti that I had ordered I felt would be perfect in this pot. I also had a fairy (that my kids broke the wings off of) to use.

I ended up with my favorite fairy garden and such a cute center piece for our kitchen table. I did get some blue rock to use as water and green rock to act as grass.

I have about 5 other fairies that need a garden for a home so I have more fairy gardens in my future.

Laundry Room Doors

So in my front yard there is a spot that was just dirt and durin c the winter it is a muddy mess. To fix this problem I did put in brink paver for a small patio. But my original plan was to put grass in but I didn’t want to have to mow it so I decided to put in a small flower bed to take up some of the dirt space. I made the flower bed out of some old edging that someone was going to throw away I decided how big the bottom ring was going to be and used a saws all to cut the edging to size I then filled the ring with potting soil.i pressed down the soil to get the ring to stay in a circle. I over lapped the two ends and just using hot glue to hold it together. Next I made the middle and the top rings the same way as the bottom ring. Once the soil was all pressed down well I planted NY flowers. After this project my flowers. After this project was completed I decided to make a second small patio and fill the rest in with rock. I think the flowerbed looks so pretty and when the other patio and rock are in the whole thing will be wonderful.

Mountain Lakes

Over the weekend we went up into the mountains to enjoy nature. We went fishing and just enjoyed being outside. A few weeks ago we visited one of the lake that we went to this weekend but it was so beautiful we had to go back. We love climbing all over the rocks and being on the fishing boat. I personally love take photos while exploring the lake not so much fishing. I love looking for wildlife and trying to photograph it. This weekend we spent time at two mountain lakes and will have to go back to do more exploring at both.

An Entire Laundry Room Updated all Started with some Shelves

As I am nearing the completion of the updating in my laundry room, I thought I would look back on my first project that started the entire journey. Our laundry room is very small and had very little storage space. All the storage space I had was one small shelf that would barely hold my laundry room supplies let alone anything else I wanted to keep handy. Because the the lack of space was not going to work for me, I knew I had to do something. So I decided I would add shelving to the room

Laundry rom shelvesThe existing shelf was black and just did not fit my style. Black is a great color but I prefer things that are bright and colorful. Sense I was not really happy with the black shelf, I took down the shelf and let my kids paint it. Now keep in mind at the time my kids were 1 1/2 and 3 years old. There is no rhyme or reason to their painting, they just picked a color they liked and finger painted it. It took them two days to finish the one shelf. I did have them paint both sides of the shelf and I did do a laundry room shelveslittle touching up to cover any spots that were missed.

Sense I wanted another shelf I needed them to paint a second one to match. I had a piece of plywood that was leftover from another project and decided to use that as my second shelf. They worked on the project for another two days, finger painting the shelf and themselves. The kids had fun painting and did a great job working together to fill a need in our home.

After I finished touching up the shelf I had to make some decision on how i wanted the shelves mounted on the wall. I still had the wall mounts from when the first shelf was black so I went ahead and used those for the original shelf. For the new shelf I had to purchase another set of wall mounts but I couldn’t find a set to matching the first pair of wall mounts. At first I was a little disappointed but then I decided to get the cheapest thing that I could find and just paint them the same color. I was a little nervous because the shelf mounts did not match but once both shelves were hanging on the wall I was not really bothered by it. Both mounts  were painted white and the wall is a cream color so they don’t really stand out.

Once both shelves were up I was so happy to have a little more space for storage and I loved the colors the kids painted them. The shelves entertained my kids for several days and is functional art that I get to look at every day. As the shelves were more my personal style, the rest of the room looked so boring to me. I felt as though the rest of the room needed some decor to complete the look of the room. I felt that the walled needed some touch up paint, the doors needed some TLC, and we needed artwork around the room. It is interesting to he how a seemly simple project could turn into an entire laundry room update.

New project

I have many interest but I love making things I can use. I need a new blanket for our bed so I have decided to make quilt. I love the way a quilt looks. They looks so homey but also like artwork too. This may take some time because I will only be working on it while the kids are asleep but I wanted to share the fabric colors.

I am so excited for this project. I have been wanting to do this for a long time now. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. If it turns out on I hope to make one for each of my kids too.
